Info About Steve
Steve Michaels is a native New Yorker. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, and started piano lessons at the age of four. At thirteen years old, Steve was hired for his first professional job, and a year later was playing and conducting shows at a resort hotel in New York State. While going to college in the late 1970’s, Steve was a full time musician, playing various dates in and around New York City. To complement an already busy schedule, Steve was taking weekly lessons with both classical artist John Challener, and jazz artist/pianist/arranger Jaki Byard.
Since then, Steve has established himself as one of New York’s busiest musicians, pianists, record producers, arrangers and conductors. Even when headline entertainers come into New York with their own pianists/conductors, Steve is their first call synth player.
In the past few years as an arranger and studio musician, Steve has spent many hours in recording studios working with some very talented entertainers who are using his band orchestrations all over the world, in addition to enhancing their performances with live musicians by using his studio recorded background tracks. Steve has received email from musicians as far west as Australia, and as far east as England, expressing their admiration for his work.
Steve also has conducted for many of today’s top entertainers at hotels in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, major cruise lines, in addition to theaters, concert halls and other musical venues throughout the United States and Canada. He has traveled as musical director working for PGA events, in addition to working major Corporate functions. When not on tour or working in the studio, Steve can be found playing various types of gigs (Jazz, High Society, R&B) in the New York Metropolitan area. A member of American Federation of Musicians Local 802, Steve is also a member of ASCAP, having registered a number of musical compositions and recordings, that were used on the Broadway stage, as well as Television & Radio.
Steve currently lives in Toms River, New Jersey. A beautiful town on the Jersey Shore virtually equidistant from Manhattan, Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
